Presenting Your Candidates!

Endorsements

When you read this recommendation for the Board of Directors for 2026, you will have just received your ballot in the mail.  There are two candidates for whom I am recommending you vote.  #1 is Roger Allen. Roger has done an excellent job handling the current roadwork project as a member of the ad hoc road committee.  He is an active member of the Long Range and Facilities Planning committee and serves as an Otter Creek Lake Utility District trustee.  Roger’s career experience as an operating engineer, and his pledge to uphold fairness, transparency, and fiscal responsibility solidify my recommendation of a vote for Roger.  My 2nd recommendation is for the election of Karen Franzen, who has been a board member in the past.  During her 15 year tenure on the board, she headed projects like the Dog Park, Spray Park, and providing accessible fishing docks. Karen has a good background in governance, financial responsibility, and community needs.  She is also a member of the Long Range and Facilities Planning committee.  These two candidates have earned my trust and my vote.  Please join me in electing Roger Allen and Karen Franzen to the Lake Summerset Board of Directors. ~ Jack Walsh

Three generations of our family have called Lake Summerset home.  During the past five decades I’ve had the unique opportunity to observe our community growing from the promise of a lake by the developer to an ever-expanding small city that it is today.  Over the years our community has been blessed with volunteers who have donated their time, energy and leadership skills to develop a lake community that is second to none.   Lake Summerset Association (LSA) from its very beginning had leaders with the vision to plan for the future as the community grew and evolved with the times.  The combination of volunteers, excellent staff and great leadership over the years has served us well to minimize membership dues and avoid the need to make special dues assessments.

Long-term planning has been instrumental in our success.   Key to this process is allowing open forums at both committee and board meetings for the members voices to be heard.  Members have the right to have questions answered and topics fully vetted in a nonconfrontational way.  Ultimately the LSA Board of Directors whom we have elected exercise their fiduciary responsibility to make the best  decisions for our community.

In review of this year’s field of candidates for the LSA Board of Directors, Roger Allen and Karen Franzen bring a proven blend of leadership skills, fiscal responsibility and the drive to unite our community.  Both individuals have proven themselves to be able to make decisions on what’s best for our community without yielding to special interest groups.   Please join me in voting for Roger Allen and Karen Franzen.

When we built our home at Lake Summerset, we did not comprehend just how much our home value and quality of life depended on the decisions made by the LSA Board of Directors.  In our nearly 4 decades as full-time residents, we’ve been well served by deeply committed board members.

A common thread connecting effective Directors has been the challenge of managing the long-range planning and finances of the LSA.  Only a few of us have broad range of leadership experiences involving long range planning, Human Relations, and/or Financial Management.  In our view, two candidates have the greatest commitment to the multiple needs and expectations of our membership.

Karen Franzen has been a 15 year member of our board and after a brief absence, will hopefully return to our service.  She has owned and managed her own successful business and therefore has created and managed critical budgets. She does ask questions and demands necessary details before making decisions. As the success of her business required fulfilling customer needs, she practices the teamwork and interpersonal skills necessary for our success. Karen is a member of our long-range planning committee.

Roger Allen presently serves on our long-range planning committee.  We’ve been blessed to have the commitment of a career Operating Engineer.  Roger comprehends the planning necessary to avoid problems within large scale construction projects that involve legal entanglements stemming from labor contracts and State/Federal regulations.   Considering the oft spoken concerns of LSA members and his experience as an Operating Engineer for large scale construction projects, many will find his most notable contribution to be attention to the maintenance and improvement of our roads.

Both Roger and Karen find additional time to be involved in our clubs and LSA activities.  We will be placing our trust in and vote for Karen Franzen and Roger Allen.  We hope you will too.

Respectfully ~ Frank and Donna Miller
